iPhone…but not quite yet
June 30th, 2007

So the day finally came. With some help from Bryan, I solidified my place in line for the iPhone at the 5th Ave Apple Store. The line was pleasant and so were the wonderful people we waited with for whom their names escape me at the moment. You can check out the fun times at the Apple Store here and the iPhone unboxing here.
Onto the sad part…my iPhone can’t be activated till tomorrow. Not sure why but I’m porting my number over and I think that may have something to do with it. Josh got his iPhone working in less than 10 minutes…he got a new number from AT&T. Seems like that’s the case for most people in my situation. I just hope that when I wake up my iPhone will work.
I did get a chance earlier to play with Josh’s iPhone. The typing seems to work quite well for my right hand thumbing and not so much for my left unfortunately. I hope that with time and practice that will change for the better.
I also hope that Apple will allow us to change up the main apps (as in whether to display some or not and to add more apps as they roll out). I find the Stock app almost useless. I guess there’s a high enough demand for it. Additionally with iPhone 3rd party apps, I’d like to place them prominently on the main window. If anyone finds a way to do this, feel free to drop me a line.
More entries once my phone is activated. I’m eager to use it.
big iPhone on 5th Ave.

So Matt and I were in the hood earlier. The display is very impressive. Onto the real question…who’s lining up with me on the 29th, possibly earlier? Any takers? There’s already 2 people in line at the 5th ave store
Nokia e61i and data plans
June 25th, 2007
This post is long overdue. I got this nifty thing about a week ago. The e61i is a nice little device. Being that I’m a Treo user, the interface is still a bit foreign to me (series 60, but englarged). I’ve learned how to navigate around the device and found that overall it’s pretty well designed with some usability quirks. It may have something to do with the fact that I’m only using wi-fi only without a SIM but more on that later. In the meantime, if you want to learn more about this device, check out e-series.org.
Onto the lack of a data plan available in the U.S. Really…”it is what it is”. With a plethora “smart” devices out there, I’m shocked to find not one carrier with a pre-pay or month by month data-plan. The contracts are all for 1 year which is pretty standard. How does an out of country access their emails on their Blackberry or some other Smartphone? A message to the Carriers(T-Mobile/Cingular are you listening at all?): please make data plans easy and accessible. There’s a market out there for people like me who want just a data plan…thanks.
MobileCampNYC
May 19th, 2007
The first MobileCampNYC rocked thanks to Alexis and crew for organizing it. Here’s a small recap (sessions I attended).
Arnaud Sahuguet: From Google. Brainstorming session on Voice Applications, uses, what can make it better. Try out 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411).
Juhu Pusa: Nokia Web Server. The demo was pretty awesome. Check it out here.
Jose Marinez: The Poor Man’s SMS Gateway. The icing on the cake was the Apple RSS Screensaver. You can download some code candy over at his blog so go visit.
Matt Pelletier: OpenID and Mobile (For Serious): Intro to OpenID and Q&A on new ideas using OpenID in the mobile environment.
Timo Arnall: history and context around Physical Hyperlinks and Touch-based interactions. Great summary on Bar Codes, RFID, BT and our interactions with it in the physical world.
