I’ve been complaining about the lack of an RSS app for the iPhone. I know there are third party native apps and reader.mac.com but I don’t want to hack my phone and I don’t want to go to hit safari for my feeds. So what am I talking about? The Mail app actually handles RSS. Here’s how.I use mail host that supports POP & IMAP. I’ve been using POP for years and it just seemed easier to set up (which is totally not true. I was just lazy). Once I switched over to IMAP my folders started showing up which is great since I can file some email and rearrange them and what have you…. What I just noticed is my mail host also serves up RSS feeds and conveniently it showed up on my iPhone!
This is particularly significant to me since I use the subway and when I had my treo, I was able to read offline when there’s no internet connection. Now I can grab my feeds before I go underground and voila! Hope this little tip helps. Pass it around.
*UPDATE*. I wanted to clarify that the RSS is configured through my mail hosting company (webmail.us). Results may vary based on your mail provider.
